An AI voice scam is a type of fraud where scammers use artificial intelligence to clone or mimic someone’s voice in order to deceive others. Scammers typically generate a highly realistic imitation of a real person’s speech patterns, tone, and mannerisms, then use that fake voice to:
- Impersonate a family member, friend, or coworker
- Request money, gift cards, or financial information
- Bypass voice‑based authentication systems
- Manipulate people into taking urgent actions
Common Scenarios
- “Emergency” calls from “family” requesting urgent funds
- Fake “bank reps” asking for account verification
- Impersonated officials demanding immediate payments
Red Flags to look out for
- Unknown numbers calling unexpectedly
- Pressure to act immediately
- Requests for PINs, OTPs, passwords, or account details
- Voice recordings of you saying “Yes” to unknown callers could be recorded for fraudulent purposes
